Summer 2020 - Photography Fundamentals

Back To The Lab is proud to present the work of our Summer 2020 citywide photography workshop series for teenagers in NYC.

While focusing on the fundamentals of camera techniques, we encouraged our students to explore ways of expressing themselves and how they see the world through a lens.

“Our lessons ranged from the history of photography, manual photographic skills (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), and ways to tell a story in one photograph. The course lent itself to looking at photography practices of artists, documentarians, and journalists that were using photography to narrate their personal experiences. To reflect the student population, we also included many of the practices of BIPOC photographic artists throughout history to create a more inclusive learning environment where they could see their experiences reflected in the lessons. Through the course, the students were able to connect with one another across boroughs during times of social isolation due to the Coronavirus. “ - Kamal Badhey, Lead Instructor
